Contribute Positively to Someone’s Day
One of my very own personal principles is to contribute every day to the personal happiness of others. The simplicity of actioning this principle often takes me by pleasant surprise.
During a recent trip overseas I was having lunch in a restaurant at Helsinki airport. When our waiter came to our table she seemed ‘cool’ and not terribly interested in us and our needs. I said “Hello, how is your day going?” She replied “My day is not going very well, not as good as it was yesterday.” I then enquired some more and she told me there were too many waiting staff on duty today and not enough customers.
With that she walked away from our table to get us some water and glasses. When our waiter returned she said with a smile “You know I feel so much better now just because someone asked me how my day was going.” She seemed like a different person. I also smiled and felt good that I had been able to contribute to someone’s day. It was so easy to contribute positively to my waiter’s day, just by asking “How is your day going?”
Notice how you can contribute to someone’s day in a positive way today. Sometimes we feel nervous about asking someone how they are going, perhaps we are prying. Remember the one thing people enjoy talking about the most is them, so give others this opportunity. It is surprising how good you feel when you contribute to the wellbeing of others. Research shows that the happiest people are those who contribute to the happiness of others. How can you contribute to other people’s personal happiness? Can you find at least one person every day you can assist to feel happier? Have fun and notice how this makes you feel!!
And remember to let your light shine!!
We receive a lot of emails from people who read our newsletters and we love receiving them, so please keep them coming in. Many people write to tell us how much they benefit from implementing the ideas and strategies we share. They also often mention that they enjoy guessing who wrote the newsletter article. As a result of this feedback we have decided to sign off on our stories to save the guess work. Caio Caio!!Have a wonderful couple of weeks.
